At Day Sixteen in the NaNoWriMo Challenge, I’m very excited about my progress so far. Of course, there are some who are way ahead of me—one has even reached 50,000 words (in my group of buddies); but my count is not too shabby either. I’m at 35,502 today.
I’ve been adding 2,000 + words per day, with 3,000 + a day on the weekends.
What thrills me even more, though, is that I’m still feeling engaged in the story. This hasn’t happened to me in awhile.
Before this challenge, I had started a couple of WIPs, with one of them a “completed” first draft. But something felt…well, incomplete, and I don’t just mean the editing. Now that I’ve stepped away and tackled this new project, I think I can go back to that one with fresh eyes and make the changes.
In my current story, I’m discovering that the characters have led me to some unexpected places.
We left off at my last update, talking about Martha and her friend Maeve (and all the “M” named characters!); today I took a detour with Maeve that I hadn’t planned. Something that developed after the gab fest. During that get-together, Maeve had confided to Martha about something in her marriage that so stunned Martha that she didn’t even have time to worry about the secrets she hadn’t yet shared.
After Maeve left that day, and halfway through the next week, though, Martha’s thoughts have turned back to the wrong turns she took and the horrifying consequences.
So that’s all I’m saying today. I’ll be back with further developments later in the week.

Wow! You are doing so well in this challenge!
Ah, thanks, J. Kaye. You’re a great support during these challenges. I can just feel it…you’re going to have a great writing day today!
